A Day of Joy and Nostalgia at Happy2Age: Where Life Comes Full Circle.

Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing and always come back again to where they were. The life of a person is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves. – Black Elk.

Today, I want to share a heartwarming and delightful experience at the Happy2Age Enrichment Centre. Despite the rain pouring down outside, there was an undeniable sense of excitement as the members gathered for the first day of their monthly session. As the day unfolded, I couldn’t help but notice the uncanny resemblance between this centre and a kindergarten school, where life truly comes full circle.

The morning started with the older adults arriving at the centre, some accompanied by their children, others by their trusted maids, and some even coming in the company of their dear friends. The atmosphere was filled with joy and anticipation as everyone was eager to kick-start the day.

To begin the day on a peaceful note, a short yoga session was organised. This gentle practice helped the members relax their minds and bodies, setting a positive tone for the rest of the day. It was heartening to witness the commitment and enthusiasm of the participants, all willing to embrace this new experience.

Next up was a word game, where the members were divided into two teams. The energy in the room soared as they competed, and the excitement peaked every time someone correctly answered a question. Their faces beamed with pride, and you could see the joy of being mentally agile and engaged in the game.

Understanding that these wonderful individuals, like children, could become easily bored with prolonged activities, the organisers swiftly moved on to scrapbook making. The room came alive with creativity as everyone eagerly decorated their books. Some already had a vision of how they wanted their scrapbook to look, while others found inspiration in the materials laid out before them. It was evident that each person wanted their creation to be a masterpiece.

As the creative flow settled, a short snack break provided a moment for the members to enjoy the company of others or indulge in solitary reflection while savouring tea and snacks. Noticing that a few older adults required assistance during mealtime, it became apparent that the bonds formed within the group extended to genuine care and support for one another.

Following the break, it was time to dive into cherished memories. Each member was encouraged to write down their most memorable and joyous moments in life. Sharing stories of love, triumph, and laughter brought about a sense of nostalgia, and the room was filled with an air of appreciation for the beautiful lives they had lived.

The day concluded on a heartwarming note with a circle of thankfulness. Gratitude filled the room as the members expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful community. As the session ended and it was time to depart, I couldn’t help but be moved by the sight of the organisers calling the children of these individuals to come and pick them up.

At that moment, a poignant thought crossed my mind—how strikingly similar the HAppy2Age Enrichment Centre is to a kindergarten school. Life truly does come full circle. From parents once dropping their children off at school, now it is their children who lovingly escort them to the centre, where they rediscover the joys of youth through playful activities and shared experiences.
